a livable office for agile work processes
What makes you enjoy going to work? At Atlassian, it's the core business. The company develops software for collaboration and agile work processes and has been voted the best employer in the world. Everything is based on the idea that people achieve the most when they enjoy their work. How this is put into practice can be seen in the interior of the new office in Amsterdam.
An office building dating from the 1950s in Amsterdam's Grachtengordel district has been converted into an open and informal working environment. The character of the company blends seamlessly with the local identity of the Amsterdam office. Atlassian is an international company, but also wants to reflect the local atmosphere and identity in its various offices around the world. In Amsterdam, the starting point was found in the immediate surroundings. The scale of the rear sides of the houses across the courtyard was continued in the design of the interior. Meeting rooms, project rooms, and quiet booths are designed as a colorful collection of boxes placed in the open workspace.
A graphic floor pattern, dubbed “the connector” by the designers, connects all parts of the interior like a runner. The use of raw but characterful materials creates an informal character. Writable walls, mobile planters, and flexible furniture allow users to customize the workplace to their liking.
The high degree of adaptability of the working environment is a prerequisite for agile work processes. Multidisciplinary teams are deployed in varying compositions to tackle highly results-oriented (sub)projects in a short period of time. This strategy is rapidly gaining ground and is one of Atlassian's specialties. By dividing long development processes into short sub-projects, changes can be anticipated and results can be measured in the short term.
In addition to adaptability and multifunctionality, opportunities for seclusion and relaxation are also essential in Atlassian's interior. For users, the office is a second home, where effort and relaxation go hand in hand.
