new school building and renovation of sports facilities

The plan development for the renovation of Huizermaat, a school community for VMBO-T, HAVO, and VWO, took place in two phases:
In the first phase, all existing facades around the building were removed and completely renovated, with the continuity of lessons being a very important starting point.
In the second phase, after completion of the facade renovation, the extension was added. This extension consists of an “open” connection between the old and new buildings, also serving as the new main entrance, the new auditorium, the media library, and several theory classrooms.

The central entrance is set back from the end walls, creating an entrance courtyard that provides shelter and can serve as an activity square. The entrance courtyard can be closed off by large pivot doors, which, when open, provide inviting accessibility between the school and its surroundings, but when closed, maintain good controllability.

The facades are constructed from a combination of brick, bronze-colored aluminum profile sheets, and wooden and aluminum window frames.
A new sports facility has been added to the design, linked to the school.
