renovation and interior design of adult education center ROC

The striking national monument on Postjesweg is beautifully situated where two canals meet in the De Baarsjes district. The combination of adult education for the ROC of Amsterdam and commercial functions ensures optimal integration of education and work. Multiple renovations and additions of a gym and canteen in the courtyard have not done justice to this beautiful example of Amsterdam School architecture. Strategic interventions in the building, including the creation of an atrium with a carefully designed glass roof, have resulted in a functional, transparent, and accessible building.

The interior design seeks to strike a balance between respecting the existing monument on the one hand and applying new materials and forms on the other. A red floor circulates like a runner through the building and emphasizes its architectural form. Industrial lighting refers to the former craft school. Coffee corners and reception areas are marked with monumental furniture featuring graphics and lighting.
