residential group for young people with autistic spectrum disorder, 9 social rental apartments

In the middle of the Liendert district of Amersfoort stands the Vogelnest, a residential building that combines two different types of housing. The building has an unconventional design that stems from the desire to achieve a special quality within the financial framework of the task.

The bottom two floors are specially designed for young people with autism. Under supervision, they can gain their first experience of independent living here. The independent apartments are arranged around a central space that invites communal use. Yet the design of the layout also allows for seclusion if you choose. The living group space is intimate and sheltered and therefore an ideal environment for sheltered living.

The upper part of the building consists of social rental apartments whose front doors face a “raised” residential courtyard. This special layout offers residents not only their own balcony but also a communal outdoor space with a view of Amersfoort. It is an attractive alternative to the galleries or porches common in this category of housing. The courtyard aims to generate stronger social cohesion among the residents.
