transformation of a 6,975 m² office complex into 87 residences
The small-scale layout of the linked office villas on Villawal made the building highly suitable for transformation into residential units. Now that the conversion is complete, there is no trace of the building’s former function as office space. This is thanks not only to the building’s inherent structure, but also to the way in which a few simple interventions have given the buildings an entirely new character.
Despite the seemingly straightforward setup, designing homes suitable for the intended target group required a great deal of creativity. A wide variety of housing types was used to make optimal use of the available space.
The quality of the resulting residential environment is further enhanced by the shared garden, located above the semi-sunken parking garage. All of the homes are accessed from this garden, making it a central element in establishing a strong sense of community within the project.
